Gibson SG Bass

by David
(London)

Gibson SG Bass

Gibson SG Bass

My bass guitar is a 1969 Gibson SG EB-0 with one original metal pickup and an extra added one. Apart from that and the strings, everything else is completely original.

A few scratches and nicks but still works brilliantly and gives a nice rich tone.
Original hard case too.

No available serial number (haven't opened the neck to check though).

ANSWER

Hi, David--

Here is the Blue Book general info:

EB-0
- SG shaped, double round cutaway mahogany body, black pickguard, mahogany neck, 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, bar bridge, blackface peghead with pearl crown/logo inlay, 2-per-side Kluson banjo tuners, nickel hardware, covered humbucker pickup, volume/tone control, 30.5 in. scale, available in Cherry Red, Walnut (mfg. 1971-79), Ebony (approx. 10 mfg. 1971-75), or Natural (only 5 mfg. 1973 only) finish, mfg. 1959-1979.

Pricing info:

1966-1979
Mint $1,500
Exc.+ $1,200
Exc. $1,000
Avg.+ $850
Avg. $725
General $600

**The added pickup is going to lessen the value as far as collectors are concerned. The market is very dominated by original condition guitars.

What if...
by: David

Hi Lynne. Thanks for the info.
I bought it about 1.5 years ago for £600GBP.
Thought it was a fair deal from ebay.

One more question...

What if I had the extra pickup removed and filled the holes up again?
Would that bring the value up again?

ANSWER

Hi, David--

Unfortunately, it would still not be original, and even if the filled holes were undetectable, you would not want to be dishonest about the condition of the guitar.
