gibson les paul custom lefty

by joe
(oregon)

gibson les paul custom lefty serial# 580500 located on back of headstock. original case included.

ANSWER

Hello, Joe--

There are a couple of options as to the date of your guitar:

1. If the serial number is Ink Stamped / Decal unto back of headstock, Your guitar was made at the Kalamazoo Plant, USA approximately in: 1955

2. If the serial number is impressed into back of headstock,Your guitar was made at the Kalamazoo Plant, USA approximately in: 1966, 1967 or 1969 or 1971.

As to value, I need to know (besides the above)--

1. Is "Made in U.S.A." on the back of the headstock?

2. What kind of finish?

Actually, a picture would be a great help.

Please supply this information and I will get back to you. We are looking at a guitar of considerable value.

Lynne

UPDATE

Joe--after seeing the picture and doing considerable research, I have to conclude that your guitar was made in 1971. This was the first year that left hand models became available.

The Blue Book says:

Mint-$4,000

Exc.+ $3,200

Exc. $2,700

Avg $2,200

If you want to sell the guitar, you will want to ask different dealers to get an idea of the actual selling price. Remember that the dealer may quote low to you so that he can make a profit on the resale.

You also might want to advertise to private parties.

Nice Guitar!

Lynne
