Gibson ES-175 Serial # A-17008

by Jim Covington
(Corpus Christi, Tx)

Gibson E-175 Guitar

Gibson E-175 Guitar

Sunburst model in almost mint condition. Every thing is original. No chips or large cracks . Only the small hard to see cracks from aging. The guitar was purchased by my father in the fifties. He died in 1987 and the guitar has not been played since. I do not have the original case. Serial number located on interior left back as viewed through top hole.I did put new Gibson Strings on the guitar.

ANSWER

Hi, Jim--

Here is the Blue Book general info:

"ES-175 (W/ SINGLE PICKUP, ES75)
- single sharp cutaway body, 16.25 in. wide by 20.25 in. long, and 3.375 in. deep, 24 3/4 in. scale, arched maple top, f-holes, raised layered black pickguard, bound body, maple back/sides, mahogany neck, 14/20-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with pearl parallelogram inlay, adjustable rosewood bridge/trapeze tailpiece, black face peghead with pearl crown/logo inlay, nickel hardware, one single coil or humbucker pickup, volume/tone control, available in Natural or Sunburst finish, mfg. 1949-1979."

The single coil pickup was replaced by the PAF humbucker in 1957, so I am going to give you the pricing info for years previous to 1957:

1949-1956 (P90 Pickup)
Mint $5,000
Exc.+ $4,500
Exc. $3,925
Avg.+ $3,250
Avg.$2,650
General $2,300

Best Wishes,
Lynne

ES-175
by: Slim

Jim,

My uncle had one that looked just like yours.
I fly to Mustang Beach a lot and would like to see it sometime, if you care to show it.

Odd serial dateing
by: Shankk

I have a 175 (natural) 1 pup p90-sounds- describes just like the first authors.

It however, has TWO diffent serial numbers-one inside of each f hole on the Gibson sticker cards.S-two cards-Two differnt numbers
They are similair but not real close in sequence.
Each serial number comes out of the Gibson serial number decodr with the same year date.
1912 Kalamazoo plant.Thats too weird...I know it`s old and the case I might believe but they weren`t made yet.

Es-175 serial number identification
by: Anonymous

HI my name is David Grech. I own a gibson natural es-175 with the serial number a2065474. The first letter that is not a capital a is a bit ambiguous. It might be number nine. The whole serial number is handwritten in pen. Could you please tell me the date manifactured and which plant it was made. As well the wood conbination. What i am sure of it has a mahogany neck and rosewood fretboard and the rest is natural either maple or spruce??? thank you very much for now

ANSWER

Hi, David--

Either way I enter it, the serial number comes up as unrecognized. Don't know why that would be.

Here mis the general info on the guitar:

ES-175 (W/ SINGLE PICKUP, ES75)
- single sharp cutaway body, 16.25 in. wide by 20.25 in. long, and 3.375 in. deep, 24 3/4 in. scale, arched maple top, f-holes, raised layered black pickguard, bound body, maple back/sides, mahogany neck, 14/20-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with pearl parallelogram inlay, adjustable rosewood bridge/trapeze tailpiece, black face peghead with pearl crown/logo inlay, nickel hardware, one single coil or humbucker pickup, volume/tone control, available in Natural or Sunburst finish, mfg. 1949-1979.
