Gibson ES 330 TD 1967

by Bruce
(CA)

1967 ES 330 TD

1967 ES 330 TD

The serial number is only marginally legible, both on the back of the scroll and the sticker visible through the f-hole. My best guess is 878694. The first 2 numbers are definitely 87, which should make it a 1967 model.

At one time, someone installed a homemade phase which I had removed. There are 2 small holes near the knobs left from this.

There are several worn places along the scroll and one on the back of the neck.

Cherry finish, does not have the original case.

ANSWER

Hi, Bruce--

The serial number you provided indicates that your guitar was made at the Kalamazoo Plant, USA
in: 1967-68.

Here is the Blue Book general info:

ES-330 TD Add to Collection
- similar to the ES-330 T, except has two single coil pickups, four knobs (two v, two tone), and a three-way pickup switch, available in Cherry (1960-1975), Natural (1959-1962), Sparkling Burgundy (1967-69), or Sunburst finish, mfg. 1959-1975.

The pricing info:

1965-1969
Mint $3,500
Exc.+ $2,750
Exc. $2,200
Avg.+ $1,850
Avg. $1,500
General $1,200

The alteration (holes from the phase)will decrease the value more that the wear--by how much, I can't say without seeing the guitar.

Still worthy?
by: Dean

I also have this guitar but I have modded it slightly, but not in a bad way. I added Schaller tuners and a new bridge. Minimal checking. Still worthy?

Question about evaluation
by: Bruce

The 2 holes from the phaser are right below the pick guard in the picture. Would a close-up of that area enable you to better evaluate it?

ANSWER

Hi, Bruce--

It is not the size or appearance of the holes that makes a difference, but just the fact that the guitar has been altered from its original condition.

The Blue Book prices are based on what collectors are paying and collectors insist upon ORIGINAL condition.

The price that you could get for the guitar just depends on the buyer and how important the holes
are to him/her, and how good a sales person you are.

If you are wanting to know for insurance purposes, I would go ahead and claim the amount based on the wear and forget about the holes.

Lynne
