This free music software is really useful and fun stuff. I use it all the time. Most of it is ABSOLUTELY FREE (not shareware]. If a particular item is "shareware", I will tell you. Please check back often, as I am continually finding new software.

Have fun! Here are the links:

SLICE

Audio file splitter designed to take mp3 files and cut them into either a set number of files or files of a set duration. Slice can also detect a specified amount of silence and split the file at these points. This is useful where you have many songs in one mp3 (for example an entire CD in one file) and need to split them up into individual tracks.

PERFECT PITCH

PitchPerfect is a highly accurate professional guitar tuner with a very simple to use interface. PitchPerfect eliminates the need to tune an instrument to some kind of conventional tuning. Instead, PitchPerfect can automatically detect whatever note you are playing. This means you are not constrained by standard tunings, or even well known alternative tunings.

TWELVE KEYS

Twelve Keys is a program designed to assist musicians to transcribe music recordings. The software creates a visual representation of the notes in any music recording. TwelveKeys is able to accurately detect notes in both simple single instrument recordings as well as complex polyphonic compositions. You can also play the recording at slow speed (constant pitch) or loop short parts of the recording to figure out the more subtle detail when trying to reproduce the music yourself.

YAMAHA METRONOME

The Yamaha metronome sits in a window of its own and has a visual display showing a metronome as it swings from side-to-side. This metronome is very easy-to-use, it has four tempo settings (40, 60, 80, 120 beats per minute) and allows you to select the meter so that every second, third or fourth note makes a different sound. Finally, the sounds can be altered too.

Audacity

Audacity is a free, open source software for recording and editing sounds. It is available for Mac OS X, Microsoft Windows, GNU/Linux, and other operating systems.
