My problem
by: Anonymous

When we are playing the music it sounds great but listening to it back is something different. okay, we are not recording on the greatest equipment but I think thought that it would sould better than it's sounds now.
I feel like my playing is in a different key then what they are playing. then i found out that the guitarist is playing nothing but power chords. i taught that playing on the 5th of the power chord would work, but it doesn't...
I've even tried it on the 3rd and it's still the same thing. something I'm playing is wrong. I play guitar and bass so I know what they are playing is not wrong. but my playing is off.
I'v done 9th, 11th... i've done inversions.... but nothing... the reason why i like playing in that band is cause it's the type of music that i wanna do, that's why I'm doing my best to make it work...

ANSWER

Power chords are just chords that are missing the 3rd--the note which makes a chord major or minor.
You can play the chords without a 3rd or you can figure out whether the chord should be major or minor in the particular key in which the song is played.
