Fender Precision Bass 1984

Hello!! I have a Japan Fender precision bass, serial number is E856565.I purchased this bass brand new,I don't remember exactly when though.I bought it as a backup. This instrument looks like the day I bought it.The fret wear is almost zero. The crowning looks to be untouched on all frets. It's candy apple red,I don't know if thats what fender called it though. It is completely stock with no mods. Extremely little playing time.I would have to say this instrument is mint or near mint condition.
Can you provide me with some kind of value and any info you can find?
Best wishes
Jim Klein

ANSWER

Hi, Jim--

The serial number indicates that your guitar was made at the Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan in 1984 - 1987.

The problem is, I could find no Precision basses manufactured in Japan during those years.

The Jazz special was a hybrid guitar--jazz neck and precision body. It was manufactured in Japan
during that time period.

Here is the Blue Book info on that guitar:

JAZZ SPECIAL (JAPAN MFG.)
- Jazz Bass/Precision Bass hybrid model, precision style basswood body, bolt-on Jazz Bass style neck, no pickguard, graphite nut, black hardware, one P-style and one J-style pickups, mfg. late 1980s-1991.

Here is the pricing info:

Mint $450
Exc. + $375
Exc. $325
Avg.+ $275
Avg. $225
General $175

If this is not your guitar, maybe you could send a picture? Or if you can find any other numbers on the guitar. Sorry I could not help more.

Precisions hand-made in Japan in 1984
by: Anonymous

Whoever that was that said no P-basses were made in Japan in 1984 is just dead wrong. I've got a 1984 Precision, researched it, hand-made in Japan in 1984. New it was something like $1400.

I have a Fender Precision Bass made in Japan serial number starting with E and then 6 digits...the internet research i did indicates it was made between 1984-87...is that correct.
