Fender Mustang Competition
I just received this Fender guitar from my grandparents along with the original case and an older style Fender CHAMP amplifier. They are all in very good condition. The guitar doesnt have any scratches on it. The limited research I have done shows this to be a Fender Mustang. However, I am not really sure if it is an original or if it is a re-issue. The numbers on the guitar are 321,096 and on the bridge it says dynamic fender vibrato. Can you tell me an approximate value of this equipment along with it seems to be a reissue or an original? It is also a left handed model. Thanks very much.
ANSWER
Hi, Justin--
From looking at your guitar, I can tell that it is not a reissue. Specifically the bridge and vibrato are the original release.
Yours is what is called a "Competition" Mustang--due to the white stripes. Without a serial number, I can't give you and exact date, but these guitars were made from 1969-1973.
Here is the Blue Book general info:
Competition Mustang (U.S. Mfg.)
- similar to the Mustang, except has a Competition finish (solid color finish with three racing stripes on front), available in Blue, Burgundy, Orange, or Red finish, mfg. 1969-1973.
The pricing info:
Mint $2,250
Exc.+ $1,800
Exc. $1,450
Avg.+ $1,200
Avg. $1,000
General $800
