Fender JP-90 USA S/N 000634

by Matt Broniec
(Lindenhurst, IL.)

I have a JP-90 with the serial number 000634. I do not know much about this bass but I do like it. Is there any history to this model? When I play, I get some good comments on it and some have never heard of it. As far as I know it is all original. What do you think the value is?
THANKS
Matt

ANSWER

Hi, Matt--

The serial number came back as unrecognized. The Fender serial number has a letter in front of the numbers. This bass was manufactured for 4 years--1990-1994 and the Blue Book price is the same for all years.

Here is the Blue Book general info:

JP-90 (NO. 014-4100) Add to Collection
- offset double cutaway asymmetrical poplar body, bolt-on maple neck, 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, four-on-one-side tuners, fixed bridge, black pickguard, P/J-style pickups, two knobs (v, tone), three-position switch, chrome hardware, available in Arctic White, Black, or Torino Red finish, mfg. 1990-94.

The pricing info:

Mint $550
Exc.+ $475
Exc. $400
Avg.+ $350
Avg. $300
General $250

Some info
by: Yuri

Hello Matt.
I also have a JP-90 that I bought in 1992.
After years playing it I realised that I love this bass. It's not my main axe anymore and I modified a bit, but I love it.

Over the years I found some info on it. I'm not sure that everything is correct as I found it online... but here it goes.

-----------------------------------
I think these are the Fender stats. Seems accurate.

Model Name: JP-90
Model Number: 014-4100-(Color #)
Series: Standard Series
Body: POPLAR
Neck: MAPLE
Fingerboard: ROSEWOOD
No. of Frets: 20
Scale Length: 34" (864 mm)
Width @ Nut: 1.625" (41mm)
Hardware: CHROME
Machine Heads: STANDARD
Bridge: STANDARD
Pickguard: N/A
Pickups: 1 STANDARD PRECISION, 1 STANDARD JAZZ
Pickup Switching: 3 Position Toggle (Neck, Neck/Bridge, Bridge)
Controls: MASTER VOLUME, MASTER TONE
Colors: (706) BLACK, (758) TORINO RED, (780) ARCTIC WHITE (Poly-Urethane Finish)
Strings: Dynamaxx 1200L
Unique Features:
Source: CORONA (US)
Accessories: None
U.S. MSRP: $499.99 to $529.99
Specs: Prices and Specifications Subject to Change Without Notice
INTRODUCED: 1990
DISCONTINUED: 1993

Notes
Note for rebuilders: The bridge J pup is actually a standard J neck pickup (slightly narrower).
If you replace the bridge pup, you will have to shave/cut the flimsy pickguard.
Vol/Tone pots are 500K for those who want to replace them (most are too faded to read, I think they were old stock when the put them in back then).

-----------------------------------

Again... these are not my words. but I think they're prety accurate.

Well... I hope that helps.
Cheers.

forgot to include the prefex 'N'
by: Matt

Thanks for your response...I forgot to include the prefex 'N' so the serial number is N000634.
Do you have any history on this model or know where I can find additional information on this. THANKS
MATT

ANSWER

Thanks for the "N", Matt. Now the serial number indicates that your guitar was made at the
Fuji-gen Plant (for Fender Japan), Japan
in 1994.
