Fender f-35
by: Southman

I bought one years ago from a dude who wanted to buy some computer stuff. Paid $100 out of the trunk of his car! It has cracked top and a cheap cardboard case. I added a bone nut and a Dean/ Markley pick-up in the sound hole. Then an EQ. pedal. Plays just as good as my expensive Yamaha Compus series. Been playing it in the clubs for now on 20 years. Great instrument. California Fender's and U.S.A. Gibson's the only REAL guitars in America. Well? maybe Martin?

I have a f35 with the fender label in the sound hole. There is no serial number stamped on it. I have seen several others on the internet like this. Does it mean it's a fake?

Fender F-35 for sale
by: John

I have a Fender F-35 acoustic guitar, made in Japan that I'm looking to sell in order to acquire a Martin.
Hate to sell her, but no choice if I want another.
S/N is 7057263 which apparently indicates 1970 based on 1st 2 digits. It's in good shape with original Fender hard case it came with, and I can get pics if wanted. Contact me if interested. Cell is 414-651-8827 or email @ jgriffin@moogmke.com John

I also own a F35. Bought in Vienna back in 1980 when I was a medical student. I don`t remember how much I paid, but I remember getting rid of my last money and having to scra at food for the erst of the month! It has served well for over 30 years and still is in perfect condition. The rather hard action I lately improved by filing the Bridge bone and lowering the strings.
It has ser.Nr.7928915, I gess manufactured in 1979. There is astikker at the back of the machinehead with :WK 14632. It has no remark on manufacturing country. Can anybody tell me where it has been manufactured? I also find that the sound has incredibly improved with time!

Still love my F-35 after 30 years
by: Michael S.

I've had several offers from friends to buy it because they love the sound so much (better than their more expensive guitars). After having it for so long, and maintaining it in *excellent* condition, there's NO way I would ever part with it.

Serial # FK100013. All that the Fender web site says is 1972-1981. I'm pretty sure I bought it in either late '80 or early '81.

I have one!
by: Anonymous

I bought a fender 35 in 1974 and I still cherish it today. I have also played a $10,000.00 Les Paul and I must say for the money this fender is amazing! The neck is perfect for my hand and if it sounds muted when you play it, take more lessons. This fender is truly a dream for the price. The fender website puts it at $215.00...

Identification My F35
by: Paul

I have read your posts and My Fender F35 does not have a year number on the label
When I look inside the sound hole & at the base of the neck I see a number stamp 080184
So does that mean it was made in 1984 ?

F-35 for Sale Best offer
by: Anonymous

I am not a guitar player but I have inherited this Fender F35. It has one deep gouge on top and some other smaller nicks and scratches but still looks nice over all. I don't see a serial # on the tag inside the guitar so can't tell what year it is and it is also missing the bottom string. You can contact me at wantarod@comcast.net if interested.

Serial number correction
by: Anonymous

Someone mentioned below that the year of manufacture is indicated by the first two digits of the serial number. Sine I purchased my F35 brand new in 1977 and the serial number begins with 79, I believe they are mistaken. Even Fender's WEB site states they kept no serial number records. Mine is a great player in mint condition. I wouldn't trade it for anything.

by: sincers 32 years

I bought my f-35 in 1979, it was one year old. It has served me well, though I have played it for 32 years it is still in perfect condition. It doesn't have the high end sound like other guitars have but it is still my favourite to play, I payed $230.00 australian dollars for it and would not sell it for anything

My F-35 Story
by: Anonymous

I bought my F-35 brand new in 79 or 80, I remember paying around $150 for it. I was a bass & keyboard player and wanted a descent quality knock-around acoustic for songwriting and for not feeling left out at parties or at the beach. It served me well, but I never really liked the high tone of the guitar; it didn't have a warm middle, and the action on the open end was too "hard". Through the years I've acquired other higher end acoustics (Gibsons, Martins), and the F-35 stayed in the closet; all my kids learned on her (one daughter painted it with pink nail-polish). However, after turning 50 this year and getting sentimental, I decided to "revive" the old gal and apologize for the 25 years I've abandoned her. I upgraded the tuners, put a Tusq saddle and nut on her, and even installed a neck pick-up! I gave her a good set up (got the nail polish off, and the hard action disappeared once the nut was set up properly!) and now she's a pleasure to play...I like her much better now than I did when I was 19! Anyway, she still doesn't have the warm tones I like in an acoustic, but I love playing her in the back yard, and the high tones make her a blast to play through a jazz chorus! My F-35 will be with me till the end!

Info needed
by: Bob S.

I just bought a F-35 serial number F7944549. I know the guitar was made in 1979, it has a spruce top, obankole back and sides and sold for $215 when new, but nothing else. I don't know if there is anything else to know. I paid $80 for it and I think I made out OK. If anyone has any further info please advise. Thanks

how to tell age and wood type without serial number
by: Anonymous

Hi, I just picked up a fender f-35 this morning and am doing a full rehab. I don't have any serial numbers on the label inside, it says Fender Musical Instruments, Fullerton, California. and there is a red 'japan' stamp on the upper right hand corner.

Without the serial is it possible to tell what year it is? I'm also curious to figure out what the back and sides are, i've read some are ovankdale and some mahogony, is there a way to tell by the wood?

Thanks

ANSWER

Here is what the Blue Book says about the guitar:

F-35
- dreadnought style, spruce top, Ovangkol back and sides, mahogany neck, 14/20-fret rosewood fingerboard, adjustable rosewood bridge, black pickguard, Natural finish, 25.5 in. scale, mfg. 1972-1981.

Without the serial number, it is difficult to be sure of the exact year of manufacture.

Blue Book is Ate Up
by: Anonymous

I have a 1979 F-35 I've had for 30 years and I wouldn't take a thousand dollars for it. I'm currently looking for another one. It's an obvious Martin ripoff that might be as good as the Martin. This guitar just gets better with age. I play mine with light strings and I had the action lowered slightly. It's a pleasure to play.

Further Information

That may be blue book value, but nowadays an F-35 goes for $200-$300 range, despite its vintage heritage. They tend to be a little cheaper because they were made in Korea, not the U.S.A like the higher end Fenders, but nonetheless they play great especially since they're older and the wood has aged and hardened. I should know, cause I have two of them. The notch in the headstock signifies that it's a Korean Fender.

In order to determine the age of the guitar, just check the first two digits of the serial number on the label located inside the sound hole. On my two F-35s the first two digits are 78 and 79, which show that they were made in 1978 and 1979.
