fender F-35

by Jenni
(Hill AFB, UT)

I have an older Fender model number F-35 serial number 7052739. I was wondering the value of it. It was played a handful of time by my dad back in the 80's and it's sat in it's case since then. There is no dings or scratches that I see. it even has original strings minus one.

ANSWER

Hi, Jenni--

Here is the Blue Book info:

F-35
- dreadnought style, spruce top, Ovangkol back and sides, mahogany neck, 14/20-fret rosewood fingerboard, adjustable rosewood bridge, black pickguard, Natural finish, 25.5 in. scale, mfg. 1972-1981.

Excellent $55 - 75
Average $25 - 35

Lynne

WHAT?
by: Anonymous

The F-35 Fender? $75? Ask any musician that owns one and the first thing you will hear ia a laughter, and the last thing you will hear is them cursing that book, and in between you will hear how great this guitar truly is, and their own story of how that F-35 has touched their life, $75? I don't think so.

F 35
by: CB Bermuda

I bought my Fender F35 in Summer 1974 from my high school art teacher who was upgrading to a Guild. It cost me $130 and was my very first steel string guitar. Since then I've owned dozens of guitars including many Martins, Taylors, Taks, Ovations. I'll never sell my F 35 though. Great guitar, great memories.

Fender Japanese F series Acoustics
by: Anonymous

I have an early 80's Fender F75, very similar with built in bridge pickup and only one knob on the side. The solid spruce top and wood combinations on these guitars are amazing. Japan built some amazing guitars back then, like my other acoustic. An Ibanez R400 Ragtime Special, Japan 1981-- Wow what a player.
Anyway...I digress...The Fender F series acoustics are wonderful.

That bluebook value is a bunch of garbage. Go see what $75 will buy you for an acoustic.
Times are hard but I wouldn't sell mine for $300.

Value / Worth
by: Anonymous

Bought mine in 1975/6 can't remember exactly.
Over the years it's taken a few dings, but there's something about it when you play it that keeps you wanting more.
Pretty well made, and nice sound,I use a Takamine as well, but the fender has that lovely vintage feel and look.
Worth a lot more than you would probably get for it. My advice is, if one comes up for sale buy it!

F-35
by: Anonymous

I own a 79 F-35 and play it more than my Yairi & Breedlove and I like it more than the D-35s I've played. It may be just the aged spruce and the heavily V'ed neck, but it's my favorite of my twenty some guitars (& the cheapest one, too! go figure) I would say a fair price would be about 300 bucks. I wouldn't sell mine for that, though.

Love this guitar
by: Brett

I picked mine up off a council cleanup here in Australia, so it cost me nothing! I don't care what it's worth, I love the look and the sound of it. I'm not a good player by any stretch of the imagination but it sounds good even in my clumsy hands!

F35 serial number 60777
by: Anonymous

She is a beauty and has been everywhere with me since 1977. Very nice bright sound and warm tones when its played. I dont think i would every let it go for sentimental reasons. I am thinking of buying a Taylor 310ce to replace it, but deep deep down in my heart of hearts i know my F35 is my true love. Whats she worth ? Money is not the answer.

F-35 ... Great Guitar!
by: Anonymous

I have a Fender F-35 which was bought second hand by my father in the late 70's / early 80's and appraised shortly after at $800 (CAN). He had passed it on to me in the late 90's and I have not played a guitar since that could touch it in sound and playabilitly (Elixr poly web lights work great for me). The guitar has seen many parties and has been played alongside Gibsons, Martins and Tak's of all years and models and has drowned out each and everyone of them ... and has always been commented on for it!
I would not trade or sell this guitar for anything to be completely honest!

Fender F 35
by: AG - UK

I got my F-35 brand new in 1975 for about £75, but no serial number! It's got great tone and 'ring' but loses it's tuning nowadays. I think that this is due to the strings cutting away the bridge. Was advised to leave it and not change the tuners but not so sure now. Still searching for perfect strings to match. Have thought of selling it but have decided it's a gem to hang on to.

I have an F-35 purchased new in 1976. I just recently considered having an under the saddle pickup put on it but I don't think I want to mess with it.

I find the $75.00 good condition blue book value quoted here to be way low from the fellows I've shown it to.

I wouln't take $500 for mine.

Too good to sell
by: Anonymous

I bought my F 35 acoustic secondhand about twenty years ago for $330 Australian with no case. It has a beautiful mellow bright sound and I have lowered the strings both at the bridge and nut because it was a bit heavy to play. Now it is so light and effortless and the harmonics are spot on. The build quality and finish is excellent. I also fitted a piezo pickup under the saddle for amplification without it altering the sound. Over the years I have considered replacing it with a Maton or another quality instrument but even after spending 2 or 3 grand there would be little or no improvement in sound over my F35.So I have decided to keep it.

F35
by: diane

Hi,
I've owned and played a Fender F35 for almost 30 years now. I was looking to replace it, after shopping around have realized that to get a better sounding guitar I would have to spend a few thousand $. So I would say worth far more than the book price.

Hi Jenni, I just want to tell you that Lynne may say that blue book is up to 75 bucks but you can't buy a junk guitar for that. That guitar probably has alot of value to you because it belonged to your dad. The f35 is is a fine guitar with a great sound. My wife has one that I bought for her in Germany. It is also a 70 model and it's not for sale for a thousand bucks.
