fender bronco

by Dave
(Cumberland, RI, USA)

Fender Bronco 73'

Fender Bronco 73'

Whats it worth? It has a different paint job then solid color is that stock? The numbers on the neck heel are 4900-455 and the neck plate reads 505892. I believe it is a 1973. There is a modification with the tuners, someone routed it out for the spertzel locking.

ANSWER

Hi, Dave--

Unfortunately this guitar is far from original.

The Blue Book pricing for original is:

Mint $750
Exc.+ $600
Exc. $525
Avg+ $450
Avg. $375
General $300

I would place the value in the low general category.

1972 to 1980 Neck Stamps Explained.
This information was provided by Greg Gagliano.

49 = model code (Musicmaster, Mustang, Bronco)
00 = neck code (rosewood fingerboard)
21 = week code (week 21)
5 = year code (1975)
3 = day of the week code (Wednesday)

So this Bronco Neck# 4900-455
means this was made Friday, January 24, 1975

so names on necks are inspectors so Armenta is an inspector? the body has no names in the pocket... anyway.

Xavier Armenta apparently made a P-Bass or two around 1973 according to Google and more boards. A Craftsman that lives on in his work. Think you were spot on with your dating especially with a number early in the 500s. I was happy to pay $375 by the way. That headstock looks right back at you, even with the sperzels.

can you believe that your guitar has a new home in Pocasset, MA. I bought it for $375 including a case the other day. Wish I could have hit you up earlier? maybe I could have got it on C-list for $300...
Anyway, I think this guitar is sweet. The paint job is comical, but it's growing on me already and someone obviously took it seriously.
I can't figure out where the body came from, but the neck is old and beautiful. Searching "X Armenta" gets you a bulletin link about a fedner mandocaster. that led me to believe the "C" marked on it might refer to Andrew C. but who knows... Anyway, this thing found a new home and it will be played regularly.

I appreciate the info although somewhat disappointing at least the search is over for a price. I would have liked to know more information like what the #'s mean or the stock color of my guitar, but I'll take what I can get. Very much Appreciated thank you! Now for my other guitars...
