Early 1930s Martin D28 Guitar

by Richard
(Henderson NV)

My dad died and I inherited it. It's in excellent shape and in the original case. My dad bought it in the early 30s from Martin. Do you have any idea what it's worth and how would I go about selling it.

ANSWER>/b>

Hi, Richard--Without an exact year, I cannot give you an exact value. Here are the Blue Book values for the early 1930's:

1931-1933 Herringbone
Excellent $95,000 - 105,000
Average $60,000 - 70,000

1934-1938 Herringbone
Excellent $90,000 - 100,000
Average $55,000 - 65,000

As far as selling your guitar, I really have no experience with selling guitars of this value.
Here is a link to a company (with which I have no relationship) that takes vintage Martins on consignment:

target="_blank">Elderly Instruments

Best Wishes,
Lynne
