Can Sheet Music Be Outdated ?

I just started my daughter with piano lessons. I purchased an old piano, only to find the entire bench was full of classic music. All kinds of old songs Ie. Moon River... The teacher looked at them and told me we couldn't use them because they are outdated. I didn't think to ask what she meant. I am now wondering if she just wants us to purchase her music. Can the music be outdated? and what does this mean.

ANSWER

Hi, Jenny--

As far as I know, sheet music does not become "outdated". Maybe she meant that the songs are too old (in her opinion).

If your daughter is just beginning, I don't think that this music will be useful to here for a while, but you might keep it in case she wants to try it later.
