Buying An '86 Yamaha SA2000 Sun Burst
This guitar has an added Bigsby. What is a reasonable market value for this purchase, and since I don't have a particular interest in the Bigsby, is it easy to remove and convert back to the original tail piece? The guitar is in immaculate shape and looks great. Thanks ....
ANSWER
Hi, gking--
Pretty guitar!
Here is the Blue Book general info:
SA 2000 Add to Collection - symmetrical double cutaway semi-hollow ES-335-style laminated beech/birch body, multi-ply body binding, two f-holes, set mahogany neck, 22-fret bound ebony fingerboard with split pearl block inlays, multi-ply bound headstock with black overlay, Yamaha logo, and stylized inlay, three-per-side tuners, tune-o-matic bridge, stop tailpiece, raised bound black pickguard, two covered humbucker pickups, four knobs (two v, two tone), three-way pickup switch, gold hardware, available in Brown Sunburst or Burgundy finish, 24.75 in. scale, mfg. late 1970s-1984.
The pricing info:
Mint $1,000 Exc.+ $850 Exc. $725 Avg.+ $600 Avg. $500 General $400
The altered tailpiece will diminish the value probably by about one category. It can be restored, but I would take it to a qualified luthier.
