Aspen Guitar Serial # AD35935780231

by Bob Zurek
(Omaha nebraska)

just curious what it is worth i bought it about 15 years ago for 100 at a pawn shop.

Thanks

ANSWER

Hi, Bob--

The Blue Book does not list Aspen models separately. Here is the information that it provides:

Aspen
"Instruments previously produced in Korea between 1987 and 1991. Distributed by International Music Corporation (IMC) of Fort Worth, TX.
Aspen was a trademark used by the International Music Corporation on a number of imported acoustic guitars and banjos. The A series featured laminated tops and bodies, and had a retail price range between $200 and $570. Aspen´s high end Aspen Luthier (or AL) series had solid wood tops, and a retail new price range between $790 and $1,500.
Aspen A-Series guitars carry a used price of around $100 to $150, depending on condition; the AL-Series rates a bit higher, around $300 to $500.

Best Wishes,
Lynne

Sigma guitar
by: Bob

I bought a Sigma 52SDR-9 acoustic guitar in a pawn shop recently. It looks like a Martin D35 with a three piece back. I think it's a mid 70's model, made in Japan. Anyone have any info on this model?

Pawned it, wish you'd never let go
by: T D

Want it back? I may have it. Ipicked it up in a west side Ft. Worth pawn shop about 12 years ago. always loved the sound but just didn't feel right. Action is great, I just need a wider neck. AL series with 2 band Fishman. Used it for years in local gigs around Ft. Worth. Retired it 4 years ago in favor of a DR41. Interested in having it? Contact me at tdbaker2002@yahoo.com

Aspen Guitar LC-8 #08760564
by: Anonymous

Quite interresting to stumble over the mentioning of another guitar only 19 guitars older!
I live in Denmark and bought my guitar in NY in 1978. It would be fun to know how much it's worth today? The guitar is ofcourse in perfect shape and sounding as good as ever.
Just curious :)
Thank you.

Aspen A140S Seral # 000103
by: Tom

I think the "S" may stand for Solid or Spruce top because mine is definitely a solid spruce top, not laminate. I purchased it new in the 80's. Still has a very nice action on the neck. Tuning tends to drift easier and the strings don't blend as well as my Martin, but really a nice solid guitar. Especially for the price.

Aspen AD 35 Made In Japan
by: eacallo55@att.net

I own an Aspen Japan Made Guitar. I am the original owner and I bought this guitar in the late 70's. Guessing around 1978. Paid around 300 for it. I am currently do research on my guitar now. The Model Number is AD 35 followed separately with the numbers 35760745. It's a beautifully crafted guitar, modeled after a Martin D-35.

Based on what I read my guitar is a pre Korean model. If anyone has more information on this guitar or the Aspen Guitar Co., Please email me at eacallo55@att.net

Thanks
Ed

ASPEN A SERIES
by: Rod

Hi,
I just happened to buy an ASPEN in a pawn shop in VAlencia (Spain) for 50? today; I thought it was a pretty nice piece given the price, it's a bit run down but it definitely sounds good and is pretty eye-catching.

It is an A 140S-1, SERIAL # 000113 (although it might be somethin else, the writing is not clear); anybody out there can tell me how old it is?

Bytheway, this site is great!

Thanks,

Rod

ANSWER

Hi, Rod--

The Blue Book says only this:

"Instruments previously produced in Korea between 1987 and 1991. Distributed by International Music Corporation (IMC) of Fort Worth, TX.
Aspen was a trademark used by the International Music Corporation on a number of imported acoustic guitars and banjos. The A series featured laminated tops and bodies, and had a retail price range between $200 and $570. Aspen´s high end Aspen Luthier (or AL) series had solid wood tops, and a retail new price range between $790 and $1,500.
Aspen A-Series guitars carry a used price of around $100 to $150, depending on condition; the AL-Series rates a bit higher, around $300 to $500."

I don't know of any sources for Aspen serial number dating, but maybe some of our readers will have ideas for you.
