Are Power Chords Major and Minor ?

Are Power Chords Major and Minor?

ANSWER

No, there are no Major or Minor qualities in power chords. This is because there is not 3rd in a power chord. The power chord consists of only the root and 5th.

Why does this matter? A Major chord is comprised of the root, 3rd and 5th of the Major Scale. A Minor chord includes the root, the FLATTED 3rd and the fifth of the major scale.

The THIRD is what determines whether a chord is Major or Minor. Since the poser chord has not third, these chords are neither major nor minor.
