by David
(Guntersville)
I bought this guitar about 10 years ago from someone on grand ol opry. serial #SL89080656 can anyone give me the age and value of this guitar?
Hi, David--
Here is the Blue Book info:
5212 REGENT SPECIAL - dreadnought style, laminated spruce top, round soundhole, multi-layer black/white body binding, three-stripe rosette, tortoiseshell pickguard, mahogany back/sides/neck, 14/20-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlay, rosewood bridge with white pins, three-per-side chrome tuners, available in Natural gloss and Sunburst finishes, disc 1997. Excellent Average $120 - 160 $80 - 100
5212 BK - similar to the 5212 Regent Special, except has black pickguard, available in Black finish, disc. 1997. Excellent Average $140 - 190 $100 - 120
Serial numbers don't tell much on Alvarez guitars, They have used numerous factories through the years, and each one had their own way of creating serial numbers. According to Alvarez, it is almost impossible to date an Alvarez acoustic, other than the high end Yairi models.
Based on the model number, your guitar is probably from the late 70's-early 80's.
Hope this helps--
Lynne
