Alvarez 5006

by Michael James H
(Ohio)

I have always wondered the value of this guitar that I have that was given to me by my father. It is a classical Alvarez. The model is 5006 and the serial number is 54. Also on the inscription it has was I believe is the date of manufacture, written exactly like this next to the model and serial number " 3-7/71 " Umm, its definitely not in bad shape, but the the years show in a few places. The back of the neck where it attaches to the body has slid up the body about half an inch and is no longer parallel to the back of the guitar, and the bridge is pulled slightly away from the many years of use. Some scratches, some dings. Overall its not in bad condition, it works well, and it sounds completely stunning beautiful. The sound is so full and rich and resonates in my mind and body for what seems like an eternity. It is undoubtedly my most prized possession. But I would love to know what somebody thinks this is worth and thank you for your time. Also, a mint condition price as well would be helpful :)

ANSWER

1964

I purchased my Alverez 5006 serial number 184 in 1965 from a dealer in Fort Wayne, Indiana. Since then it's provided me food, clothing, and car payments with it's beautifully full sound. I'm 62 and I still play my favorite folk music on it today. I think it's sound has become better with age! The guitar's age not mine! I wouldn't trade it for a Yari or a Martin, and it will be in my will for someone else to enjoy. I consider my Alverez a treasure.

Alvarez 5006 excellent!
by: Bill

I bought my Alvarez 5006 at an antique show in May of 2009. I talked the guy down from $125.00 to $50.00..took it home, cleaned it up , put new strings on it and fell in love..It sounds better than my Jose' Ramirez that costs $1500.00! The body and neck are in excellent condition with just a few surface scratches..does anyone know how to tell what year these are? my serial # is 145. This is definitely a keeper for life!

I have a 5006 and it has two dents where an amp fell of a table on to the guitar, but it's still very playable and has great sound. I paid about $350.00 in Longview, Texas at a pawn shop about 10 years ago.

Alvarez model 5006
by: Laura

I, too, own an Alverez 5006. I purchased it brand new in 1967 in Grand Forks, North Dakota. It has been with me ever since. It is in very nice condition. I am 61 years old and this guitar by far is my prize possession. My husband spent 23-1/2 years in the Air Force and an additional 15 years in civil service where we traveled all over the U.S. and Europe. The guitar accompanied me on every move.

The sound is so rich and full and every time I play it, I comment in my mind how much I love this guitar...it's like an old friend...I love this old guitar!
