Age of FG-140

My wife has had an FG-140 since before we were married (back in 1981). She said she got it in 1970, used, from a guy she met in Florida. It is in excellent condition, plays very well -- and the serial number is: T-0040242, so I was wondering if you can tell me if this guitar was made in Taiwan -- and in what year? Thanks.

ANSWER

Hi, Gary--The FG-140 was manufactured between 1969 and 1971. The guitar was made in Japan. Yamaha did not open their Taiwan plant until the early 1980's.
