1984 westone raider 2

by kerry
(minneapolis)

only made in 84. after they added 2 additional frets. as far as i know, only 200 made that year. all original hardware. original pickups. 2 minor chips. red in color. original case. i know these are increasing in value so I'm curious what you can find! thanks soooo much! i never see these around.

ANSWER

Hi, Kerry--

There is not a lot of information available about these guitars. The Blue Book has this:

"nstruments previously produced in Japan from circa late 1970s to mid-1980s. Subsequent instruments were built in Korea. Distributed in the U.S. by St. Louis Music of St. Louis, Missouri. Trademark re-introduced to British marketplace in 1996 by FCN Music. Instruments currently produced in Korea.
The Matsumoku company of Japan had been manufacturing guitars for other trademarks (such as Aria, Epiphone, and Vantage) since the 1960s. In 1981, Matsumoku decided to market their own original designs under their own trademark in addition to their current production for others. Westone guitars were originally marketed in the U.K. prior to the U.S. market. Matsumoku guitars are generally well-built, solid playing guitars that featured innovative design ideas."

Regarding your specific model, there is no Blue Book pricing. The closest information is regarding the "Spectrum", also made in 1984:

Mint $250
Exc.+ $225
Exc. $200
Avg.+ $175
Avg. $150
General $125

This seems to fit with the info I found on the internet indicating that a Raider 2 was purchased in 2008 for $169.00
