1984 Fender Strat, Fullerton # V006226

by Stephen
(Newark, DE, USA)

I am trying to verify that this is a 1984 Fullerton made strat

ANSWER

Hi, Stephen--

When I checked the serial number, I got this:

"This guitar is from the U.S. Vintage Series
made at the Corona Plant (Fender), USA"

This info is from the Blue Book:

"The '57 and '62 Vintage Reissue Stratocasters were originally produced at the CBS/Fender Fullerton facility between 1982-1985. These models were also the first Stratocasters of the post-CBS era to be made in the U.S. at the Corona, CA production facility in late 1985"

So, it appears that the guitar was made in the Corona factory in the same time period that the Fullerton factory was producing the same guitar.

Hope this helps.

Lynne

Look at the excellent website fenderreissue.com there is some confusion but for the 57 and 62 ri the numbers from fullerton are roughly v000001 up to v016000 1982-84. as a gimmick a few of the execs at corona got low v numbers when they started that plant early 1985 but after that the series continues as before so a 57 or 62 ri with v018000 for example would be an early corona from 1985 or 1986. some of the v's got mixed up as they grabbed a few thousand at a time so a 1987 can have a lower v than a 1986 but would be close. Neck dates and pot numbers are most accurate and the case for fullerton is different, has the duckfoot tab on the inside case candy box and an arrowhead center latch on the case

no, actually they were produced at the fullerton plant until 1985 after which CBS sold fender. The facilities of fullerton were limited and therefore it was decided to open a new plant (in Corona). The early Corona RI are produced with parts of the fullerton plant.

The database giving you the Corona result is not working properly (I had the same answer with my early 82 57' red bobbin pickups). Besides that, it appears that the serial numbering of the RI is not following a logic numerical order. I saw that the V000001 and V000002 have been produced at Corona, this would explain the serial number of my RI (V0048xx) since few guitars were daily produced in the first 6 months of Fullerton and this serial, if following a normal numbering, could then impossibly be from the first six months.

I also verified the serial numbers of most early 82 on the internet with their respecting neck date and some serials that are lower then mine are dated after mine. It would be nice to get an idea of the serial numbering code used...

Good luck with your research about your guitar!
