1984 American standard Fender stratocaster tobacco sunburst with maple neck

by Andy Benton
(Mansfield, Tx)

This guitar has a really great "soul" to it, it has a really rich dark bluesy tone. The guitar is all stock except for the pickguard and the new vintage whit color fender knobs. The neck has some wear on the frets, but still plays really nicely. I am interested to know if this is considered to be a vintage fender american strat, and if it is a desired year in production.

ANSWER

Hi, Andy--

The "American Standard" was not produced until 1986. Your guitar appears to be a STANDARD STRATOCASTER (CBS MFG. 1983-85)

This is actually the only standard WAS produced in 1984. Here is the Blue Book Description:

- alder body, 21-fret maple fingerboard with black dot or rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, four-bolt neckplate, small peghead with silver logo, chrome-plated die-cast tuners, "Freeflyte" vibrato tailpiece, single-ply white pickguard, chrome hardware, three single coil exposed pickups, two knobs (v, tone), three-position switch, available in the following Standard Colors: Black, Brown Sunburst, Cherry Sunburst, Natural, Sienna Sunburst, or White finish, and the following Custom Colors: Aztec Gold, Candy Apple Green, Emerald Green, Mocha Brown, Pewter, Ruby Red or Sapphire Blue finish, mfg. 1983-85.

Here are the prices:

Mint: $900
Excellent + $750
Excellent $625
Average + $525
Average $450
General $375

Hope this helps. If this is NOT your guitar, maybe you could send the serial number and we could figure it out from there.

Lynne
