1983 Gibson Les Paul Studio /W ebony fret board

A person wants to trade me this guitar for my $300 Cadillac. can you tell me how much i could get for this guitar off ebay? or whats the value of this guitar. this is the best i can do for pictures. the headstock is not cracked its just got mojo.

ANSWER

Hi, Jimmy--

The Les Paul Studio was not manufactured until 1984 and the Ebony fretboard did not come into existence until 1987.

In this case, it does not really matter, because the prices for all years and all fretboards are the same in the Blue Book:

Mint $1,000
Exc.+ $850
Exc. $700
Avg.+ $600
Avg. $500
General $425

IMO
by: Anonymous

I have the same guitar. 1983 Gibson LP Studio with an ebony fretboard and dot inlays. Price will depend on condition and mods (if any). My guitar is original (electronics/pickups, finish, etc...) but it has certainly been played. There is wear on the neck and buckle rash.

The value of the guitar is based on what someone is willing to pay. I have been offered $1,200 for my guitar about a year ago. I did not sell because I can't seem to part with it (sounds too good).

I would say that since it is he first year of production the value is between $1000 (worn condition) and $1500 (excellent condition).

i have something similar and found the same deal. the first studios were made in 1983 it said, but it was the last 3 numbers that kinda proved it (maybe) the last 3 numbers were the production plant mine reads 309 1-399 i think were from kalamazoo plant which closed in 1984. i could be wrong i dunno

but the "Studio" model was introduced in 1983. and as you can see in the picture it is eboney fret board.wich was only made in the first 6 months. so this being the first year this was made is it worth more? i did my research on google and every site says it was made in 83.

ANSWER

I took the information from the Blue Book of Electric Guitars. Here is the entire general info:

"LES PAUL STUDIO (LPST)
- single sharp cutaway mahogany or swamp ash (2003-present) body, carved maple top, raised black pickguard, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, tune-o-matic bridge/stop tailpiece, three-per-side tuners, chrome hardware, two covered humbucker pickups, four knobs (two v, two tone), three-way pickup switch, available in Alpine White, Blue Teal Flip-Flop (disc. 2005), Classic White (disc. 2008), Ebony, Fireburst, Light Burst (Music123 exclusive, mid-2000s), Platinum (2003-05), Pewter (2002 only), White (disc. 1994), or Wine Red finish, mfg. 1984-1998, reintroduced 2001-present.

In 1987, ebony fingerboard replaced rosewood fingerboard."

As far as pricing, the Blue Book lists the same prices for all model years.
