1981 Gibson Firebird--Factory 2nd

by Paul
(Denver)

1981 Gibson Firebird--Factory 2nd

1981 Gibson Firebird--Factory 2nd

serial # 82961003 with the word "SECOND" stamped on the neck. I'm interested in the value, where it was made, and what second means. Thanks.

ANSWER

Hi, Paul--

The serial number indicates that your guitar was made at the Kalamazoo Plant, USA October 23rd, 1981
Production Number: 3

The "2" means that the guitar is a factory "Second". This means that the guitar has some flaw and was not considered by the Gibson company to meet their manufacturing standards.

Gibson no longer sells factory 2nds. It is not possible to give a monetary value for this guitar as Blue Book prices do not apply to 2nds.
