1980 Les Paul Custom Silverburst

1980 Les Paul Custom Silverburst

1980 Les Paul Custom Silverburst

Just curious on the current value on this guitar. It has some cracking of the clearcoat on the back and neck, some nicks on the head, a tunable tailpiece, lead humbucker was changed to a demarzio pickup. Would I better off to change the pickup back to a humbucker and replace the tailpiece?

ANSWER

Hi, Wayne--

Thanks for the pic--beautiful guitar!

Any alterations of the original equipment will lessen the value of the guitar. If you can replace the tailpiece and the pickup with original vintage pieces, it might help the resale value.

Here is the Blue Book info--all prices relfecting value for ORIGINAL equipment:

Mint $1,900
Exc.+ $1,700
Exc. $1,500
Avg.+ $1,200
Avg.$950
General $825

all original, with case, its worth 3600.00 all day long. When you change out stuff like pick ups, it drops considerably.

Blue Book Is Wrong?
by: Anonymous

I am curious as to what sets the blue book value? I know supply and demand and what not but I have a 1980 Silverburst as well and I am selling it and someone emailed me saysing I was asking way too much ( they quoted exactly what you have here) but if you check ebay they go from $2500 up to $4000 My Theory is that the guitatist from Tool STated in an interview that this is the ONLY GUITART HE USES as they automotive paint Gibson used on them made them sound different.. NOw I see all kinds of people in bands using them. Like I told the person the emailed me "A guitar is whorth what the other person is willing to pay for it" Could Blue Book Be wrong? Have they overlooked this ignited spark in Original Silverbursts?
