Hello, it is a 79--serial # 70789022 All original except for pick up switch, has some wear and dings ect, but nothing horrific.
The info that I received is that tobacco burst was not available on a custom in this year and that this is the last year for production customs. (not counting custom shop). I think few customs were made in 79 and probably very few in this color so I think it may be rare and was wondering what the value might be. Thanks.

ANSWER

Hi, Chris--

Here is the Blue Book general info:

SG CUSTOM
- double sharp cutaway mahogany body, mahogany neck, 22-fret bound ebony fingerboard with pearl block inlay, tune-o-matic bridge, side-pull or Maestro vibrato, stop tailpiece became standard in 1972, multi-bound peghead with pearl split diamond inlay, three-per-side tuners, gold hardware, white layered pickguard, three covered humbucker pickups, four knobs (two v, two tone), three-position switch, available in Ebony, Cherry, Tobacco Sunburst, Walnut, White, or Wine Red finish, mfg. 1963-1980.

The pricing info:

1974-1980
Mint $3,000
Exc+ $2,400
Exc $1,950
Avg.+ $1,600
Avg. $1,300
General $1,000

Additional info:

During 1963, Maestro vibrato replaced sidepull deluxe vibrato. In 1972, stop tailpiece replaced Maestro vibrato. The Bigsby vibrato became available in 1974 - approx. 60 were mfg. between 1974-79.

I have no information about the rarity of the color in 1979
