1973 Gibson Flying V
by Shane
(Rhode Island)
I am wondering approximately what my V is worth. It has had some modifications done.
ANSWER
Hi, Shane--
The Blue Book says that the Flying V was not manufactured in 1973. The closest years are 1971 and 1975. Unless your guitar has a round medallion on the bass wing, it is most likely a 1975.
Here is the description:
FLYING V MAHOGANY (2ND REISSUE 1975-1982 MFG.) - V-shaped two-piece (early models) or three-piece (later models) Honduras mahogany body, three-piece Honduras mahogany neck, 22-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, 1.5625 in. nut width, pointed V-shaped headstock with large white truss rod cover with Gibson logo and three-per-side Gibson Deluxe tuners with metal tulip buttons, tune-o-matic bridge, stop tailpiece, large white pickguard that covers most of the body, two patent number decal pickups with no pickup rings, three witch hat black knobs in triangle configuration (two v, master tone), a three-way pickup switch, and a regular input jack all mounted on the pickguard, chrome hardware, available in Black, Bahama Blue, Candy Apple Red, Natural, Red, Red Metallic, Silver Sky, Silverburst, Sunburst, or White finish, 1.3125 in. body depth, 3223 instruments shipped between 1975 and 1979.
If this sounds like your guitar, then the prices are below. If it does not, then we will need a serial number.
1975-1976
Mint $3,500 Exc.+ $2,900 Exc. $2,500 Avg.+ $2,100 Avg. $1,800 General $1,600
Let me know if you need any more help.
Lynne
