1972 Fender Jazz Bass

1972 Fender Jazz Bass

1972 Fender Jazz Bass

This is what I believe to be a 1972 a Fender Jazz Bass, with serial number 360030.
It has the original case, and all the chrome pieces are still with the instrument, although I have taken them off and also replaced the bridge with a Badass many years ago.

ANSWER

Hi, Gordon--

The serial number does indeed come up as 1972.

The Blue Book general info:

JAZZ BASS (CBS MFG. 1965-1981)
- offset double cutaway alder body, bolt-on maple neck, 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlays, four-on-one-side tuners, fixed bridge with string mutes, F logo bridge cover, two J-style pickups, two concentric (v, tone) controls, tortoiseshell/metal pickguard with finger rest, chrome hardware, available in Blonde, Black, Custom Colors, or 3-Tone Sunburst finish, mfg. 1965-1981.

The pricing info:

1972
Mint $3,200
Exc.+ $2,600
Exc. $2,100
Avg.+ $1,750
Avg. $1,450
General $1,200

Add 20-40% for Black finish (1965-1972)

You know, of course, that the modifications will reduce the value--by how much, I am not sure, but the bridge replacement will be a major consideration.

Many thanks, Lynne.
It is a black finish, so that will add the 20-40% you said.
I still have the old bridge, so the modification shouldn't reduce it all that much...especially since the Badass bridge drastically improves the sustain and reliability of the instrument's tuning.
