1964 Fender Stratocaster

by Bill Wyman
(Clinton twp. Mi.)

I wondered what a mint condition one would go for? I have inherited one from my grandfather with a serial number of L14410 all original in mint condition with original hard case.

ANSWER

Agreed

I think that's sound advice from Lynne. For a fine elderly gentleman who has enjoyed the spirit of music through his instrument, there'd be nothing more reassuring than to have his Strat end up in the right hands...and there'd be nothing more tragic (for him) than to have it end up in a cheesy pawn shop or craigslist. Sometimes it's not just about the money.

A Real Live Guitar Hero
by: william reeves

I'm trying to get some advice. In my hometown Macon Ga.,there is this guitarist by the name of George Rutland. His health is failing, but his mind is sharp. He has a 64 Fender Strat that he want's me to keep, I'm afraid.

He's in a Nursing Home and say's that I'm the only one he trusts with it.I suggested he sell it,but he said it has too much history.

He was recruited by The Godfather Of Soul, James Brown, but he declined because he did not like flying. He played locally with The Big"O", Otis Redding,Little Richard,Percy Sledge and a number of other stars beside influencing another generation of guitarists.

What am I to do? williaM.

ANSWER

Hi, William--

It sounds like he wants you to take care of his guitar, so maybe that is what you should do. He says he doesn't want to sell it, which would be the only other choice.

If there is a Music History Museum near you, you could ask him to help you write a history of the guitar and then donate it or lend it to the museum.

Let's see what some of our readers have to say--

Lynne
