1963 indeed

I have a 1963 and the serial number beings with L.

These are the first runs before they were made on an assembly line.

Fender Mustang Serial #138201
by: ALisa

Pat. Pending Number: 2950.500, 2960.500

Found this old Mustang in a trash pile! It's in rough shape, but has all the parts. Does anyone have info about this guitar? Is this the Mustang that everyone is talking about in this thread?

Also, someone asked if there was a burnt spot on the back of the guitar. This one looks like it might have had a burn on it.

Want to buy

Ok, any of you old dudes or dudettes want to part with your Mustangs? I have a special affinity for the shorter scale Fenders, and have always love these.

Call me if interested,

MUSTANG
by: FENDER FAN PRE CBS

I BOUGHT MINE IN DECEMBER 1963 BUT THEY SAY IT IS A 1964 BUT IS IS STILL IN VERY GOOD CONDITION. HAS SOME RED PAINT CHIPS ON IT MAINLY ON THE BACK FROM THE BIG BELT BUCKLES WE WORE IN THOSE DAYS. OTHERWISE STILL THE SAME IT HAS BEEN FOR 47 YEARS WITH THE SAME SOUND. ONLY USED IT FOR THREE YEARS PAID ABOUT $180.00 ON CREDIT WITH NO INTEREST CHARGE. THE LOCAL MUSIC SHOP CARRIED PAPER ON FENDER IN THOSE DAYS.

Mustang

I am almost positive I bought my Fender Mustang in 63. I held onto it with my right hand as I drove my Columbia 3 speed bicycle back from my guitar lesson. I remember seeing the new catalog and was tossing and turning which one I should get. At $189.00 plus $35 for the case it was a lot of money for me. I didn't like the telecasters look and the stratocaster and the Jaguar were way out of my budget ..The Mustang was new to the line of products..and so I bought that one..I still have the yellow rag to clean it and the paper bag that holds the rag.Rarely play it now. 916-381-0196 bill o

Similiar Situation
by: Ryan

I have what I believe is a 1963 as well. My serial code for my Fender Mustang is 96792. It has the patent pending number on the headstock as well (Which would explain how it's possible to have a 1963 Mustang). If anyone has more info on this, do tell!

S/N is accurate but doesnt fit Mustang
by: Anonymous

This cant be real because fender mustang were introduced in 1964 so how is it possible to have a 1963 plate unless someone just put a plate of a different year. It would be like selling a 1945 stratocaster.
