1962 Fender Stratocaster

by Bentley
(US)

I have just inherited this guitar from my father. I was told he got this as a gift from his father as well as another 62 stratocaster that he could play all he wanted. This one was suppose to be for his brother who ended up passing away before he was able to play it. From what I am told this one has not been touched since the day it left the guitar shop his father purchased it at. And by "not touched" I mean it has never been out of the guitar case that it was put in at the store. The case has been modified a little. Every clamp has a deadbolt lock on it. When I asked where the keys were I was told "You will never need to use them." I have never seen the guitar and or held it. I have picked up the case and know that with the weight of it, there is something inside. I wasn't told about it until around a year ago, and I'm 23 years old. I still to this day don't know where he kept it in the house and or if it was kept in the house.

There have been strict rules wrapped around this guitar for me. I obviously have been told to never open the case and to hold on to it for my children. I plan on doing all of the following for the respect of my uncle.

I am curious that if what all I have told you is true, and my this guitar is obviously in mint condition, what would the value be in todays guitar market?

ANSWER

Hi, Bentley--

Interesting story! There are 2 models of the 1962 Strat:

1962 Slab Board
Mint $30,000
Exc.+ $23,000
Exc. $17,000
Avg. +$13,000
Avg. $10,500
General $8,000

1962 Curved Board
Mint $28,500
Exc.+ $21,500
Exc. $16,500
Avg.+ $12,750
Avg. $10,250
General $7,750

25%-50% can be added to the value depending on the finish color.
