1961 Martin D-18

by Val
(Minneapolis, Mn, USA)

Two questions

1)Your values show excellent and average. What is average? Some repairs, changed tuners, fret job, neck reset? In other words, is there a poor quality or how is condition defined?

2)My guitar definitely has an ebony bridge and fretboard, but I've read Martin switched to Rosewood in 1947. Did they have upgrade options and how does that affect value?

ANSWER

Hi, Val--

There are a lot of variables that go into rating a vintage guitar. Here is a link to a free PDF explanation of how guitars are rated:

As far as the Ebony--I don't know. Maybe you could contact the Martin company for that info.

Best Wishes,
Lynne
