1961 Gibson EB-O Bass (LP,Jr body type) Cherry finish

by John Crombie
(New Albany, IN 47150)

Overall very nice condition, has nasty scratch on back from heavy rockin'.

Need estimate for insurance purposes.

Thank you.

ANSWER

Hi, John--

The EB-0 was manufactured with the SG body style. I found nothing about an EB-O with a LP body style.

Here is the Blue Book General Info:

EB-0 Add to Collection
- SG shaped, double round cutaway mahogany body, black pickguard, mahogany neck, 20-fret rosewood fingerboard with pearl dot inlay, bar bridge, blackface peghead with pearl crown/logo inlay, 2-per-side Kluson banjo tuners, nickel hardware, covered humbucker pickup, volume/tone control, 30.5 in. scale, available in Cherry Red, Walnut (mfg. 1971-79), Ebony (approx. 10 mfg. 1971-75), or Natural (only 5 mfg. 1973 only) finish, mfg. 1959-1979.

The pricing info:

1961-1964
Mint $2,500
Exc.+ $2,000
Exc. $1,600
Avg.+ $1,300
Avg. $1,050
General $825

EB-0 LP Jr
by: Anonymous

I had a 61 EB-0 with the older LP Jr body. They have the 61 serial number - a preceding "1"- and they tend to have the later Kluson bass tuners that they used on the SG bodied bass. They seemed to phase out the banjo tuners and the old style body in the same period. The last original run EB-2 basses in this period switched to those tuners as well.

1961 Gibson EB-O ( Les Paul, Jr Body)
by: John

From what I understand, this would be classified as a 1960 EB-O, however, enough bodies, necks, and other part were remaining to build 1960 model EB-O's in early 1961 and, thus, carried a 1961 serial #.

This is not the sharp horn SG shape.

Thanks for any info you can provide.

ANSWER

Hi, John--

The description in the Blue Book for 1960 is the same as 1961--double ROUND cutaway patterned after the '58 Les Paul Junior.

Here is the pricing info for 1960:

1959-1960
$4,750
$3,750
$3,000
$2,400
$2,000
$1,600
