1960's sonor drum lug rods and lugs.

hi..recently pulled an old Sonor Satin Flame kit out
of storage; but having a difficult time with some of
the lug rods threading the lugs..this kit is from the 1960's..I've tried a few different things; and different angles; without much success...i'd say 80 percent of the Bass Drum rods went in fine..but..the
rest just don't seem to want to go...i have 2 on a matching snare that are the same..any suggestions?

Not sure how old this post is....
Those sonor lugs have a nut inside that gets pushed into place by a foam retainer. That foam gets brittle and does not push it into place. Take off the lug and put a new foam piece in ....
