1960 Gibson Les Paul Junior TV Yellow

by Steve
(Toronto, Canada)

Could you please advise the value of this guitar. The serial number is C 9368. The tuners have been replaced with Grovers and a strap button has been added. Thanks, Steve

ANSWER

Hi, Steve--

Interesting guitars! The TV designation refers to the finishes that Gibson applied at the time to the wood, making the instrument stand out better on black and white television with more contrast.

Here is the Blue Book general info:

- single or double cutaway mahogany body, 13 in. wide, 17.25 in. long, 1.875 in. deep, 24.75 in. scale, black pickguard, mahogany neck, 16/22-fret rosewood fingerboard with dot inlay, wrapover stop tailpiece, 3-per-side tuners with plastic buttons, nickel hardware, single P-90 coil pickup, volume/tone control. Limed Mahogany TV finish, mfg. 1954-1961.

The pricing info:

1959-1961 Double Cutaway
Mint $15,000
Exc.+ $12,000
Exc. $9,500
Avg.+ $8,000
Avg. $6,500
General $5,000

**The non-original tuners and strap button will slightly lower the value.

no "Les Paul" logo
by: Anonymous

Yes, depending on the year, mine doesn't have it, just the "Gibson" logo

Thanks

Thanks Lynne for your quick reply! Any idea how much the non-original tuners and added strap button would devalue this guitar? Thanks again

ANSWER

Hi, Steve--

Although I responded to your question via email, I am going to go ahead and publish it in case some of our readers might have opinions about the effect of these alterations on the value of the guitar.
