1959 GIBSON SPECIAL

by Chris
(Colorado)

I have what i believe to be a 1959 Gibson Special, Serial number 80444552 located on the back just above the tuning keys. I has 3 knobs. I've never seen one like this before. It has 22 frets and is all original. How much do you think it is worth?

ANSWER

Hi, Chris--

The serial number indicates that Your guitar was made at the Nashville Plant, TN, USA February 13rd, 1984 Production Number: 52

I am assuming that you meant the LES PAUL special.
There was only one model made in 1984. Here is the general info:

Les Paul Special Double Cutaway Add to Collection
- reissue of the double cutaway Les Paul Special, rounded horns, two black soapbar P-90 pickups, 22-fret bound rosewood fingerboard, mahogany neck, tune-o-matic bridge, dot inlays, metal tuner buttons and chrome hardware, available in Ebony, Cherry (1979-1988), Limed Mahogany (1979-1988), Tobacco Sunburst, Sunburst, or Wine Red finish, 24.75 in. scale, mfg. 1976-1988.

The pricing info:

Mint $1,450
Exc.+ $1,250
Exc. $1,050
Avg.+ $950
Avg. $850
General $750

***If you are pretty sure that the guitar is a 1959 model, you may need to recheck the serial number.

If the guitar is not a LES PAUL special, then please provide further identification of the model.
