1957 Fender acoustic guitar model# 10340

by mike walsh
(Rochester, Minnesota, USA)

Just had a death in the family and this was in the belongings found. Would like to know it's value.

ANSWER

Hi, Mike--

I would like to help you. I checked the serial number (10340) and it indicates 1956 or 57, just as you say. The problem is, Fender apparently did not begin making their line of acoustics that early. There is indication that they made a FEW, but I could find no further info.

Is there a NAME of the model? That would help immensely.

It has a metal silver plate which looks like a coat of arms that has the fender signiture and the serial number engraved in it. Story goes someone gave it her 20 years or so ago and told her was a collector and to hold on to cause it was worth something. But now she died at 46 and here we are. Will try to get picture.

Hi, Mike--

I am still looking. I DID manage to find some very interesting information about Fender "Branded" guitars made before 1963. Check this out:

Inside it says, manufactured by Fender aucoustic inst. co Anheim california Usa, with a stamp of the fraction 1/2. A sticker on the inside says Marguerite's music Jamestown north dakota.

Hi, Mike--

This is very puzzling. What does the Headstock say? Could you send a picture?

I must tell you, though that Fender acoustics are not valued as collectors items. Still, the year has me puzzled. I am thinking that it might be another brand of guitar from a company like maybe Harmony, who used Fender bodies.
