by Stephanie

1956 Gibson Les Paul Special

1956 Gibson Les Paul Special

I would like to know the value of this guitar. Everything is original, except the knobs. The case and Amp are in good condition and original. ???

ANSWER

Hi, Stephanie--

Here is the Blue Book general info:

LES PAUL SPECIAL (MFG. 1955-1960)
- single cutaway mahogany body, 13 in. wide, 17.25 in. long, and 1.875 in. deep, 24.75 in. scale, multi-layer black pickguard, mahogany neck, 16/22-fret bound rosewood fingerboard with dot inlay, wrapover stop tailpiece, 3-per-side tuners with plastic buttons, nickel hardware, 2 single coil pickups, 2 volume/2 tone controls, 3-position switch, available in TV (Limed Mahogany, introduced 1955), Cherry, and Cherry Red finish, approx. 7,330 mfg. 1955-1960.

The pricing info:

TV Special
Mint $20,000
Exc.+ $16,000
Exc. $13,000
Avg.+ $10,500
Avg. $8,500
General $6,500

If the rest of the guitar is in excellent condition, the knobs won't make that much difference.

Great to know this stuff. Nothing like real expertise in any area
by: Anonymous

I have a question. I have the identical guitar (1956 Les Paul special) in TV yellow and in original case. The only thing I don't understand (and nobody seems to understand) is that my guitar has the original tune-o-matic bridge and not the "wrap around" string system pictured on this guitar. it is absolutely original and Gibson does say that this bridge was first available in 1954.

What is the value of my guitar?
